Everything you need to know about applying for a Schengen visa from Pakistan to visit Europe, including which country to apply through.
Schengen Visa – Your Gateway to Europe
The Schengen visa grants access to 27 European countries with a single visa. For Pakistani passport holders, this is one of the most sought-after visas. Here is everything you need to know.
Which Country's Embassy to Apply Through
Apply through the Schengen member state where you will spend the most nights. If equal nights, apply through the first country you will enter. Major Schengen embassies in Pakistan include Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands.
Required Documents
- Valid passport with at least 3 months validity beyond your stay
- Schengen visa application form (completed and signed)
- 2 recent passport-sized photos
- Travel insurance covering at least 30,000 EUR for medical expenses
- Flight reservations (not actual tickets)
- Hotel bookings or invitation letter
- Bank statements (last 3–6 months showing minimum 3,000–5,000 EUR)
- Employment letter or business registration
- Income tax returns
- Property or vehicle ownership documents
Visa Fee
The standard Schengen visa fee is 90 EUR (approximately $95–100 USD) for adults and 45 EUR for children aged 6–12. Children under 6 are free.
Processing Time
Schengen visas take 5–15 working days on average. During peak summer months (June–August), apply 6–8 weeks in advance. Maximum processing is 60 calendar days by law.
Single vs Multiple Entry
For first-time applicants, embassies usually issue single-entry visas. If you have a good travel history to Schengen countries, you can request multiple-entry visas valid for 1, 2, or 5 years.
Tips for Approval
Strong financial ties, a detailed travel itinerary, and comprehensive travel insurance dramatically improve your chances. Book refundable flights and hotels to avoid losses if the visa is refused.
